Kimberly's Priorities for District 1

SAFE & SUPPORTIVE SCHOOLS

Today, more than ever, school districts face the critical challenge of ensuring the safety and security of students, teachers, administrators, and staff. Here in Pasco County, the District has made significant strides in implementing protective measures that help safeguard our schools and communities. My goal is to continue building upon those efforts while also protecting each student’s readiness, ability, and opportunity to learn.

Creating safe schools is no small feat, and it begins long before a student steps onto a bus or sets foot on a school campus. In addition to maintaining secure facilities and strong safety protocols, we must also address the emotional, mental, and social well-being of our students. True school safety requires a collaborative approach that brings together staff, teachers, administrators, students, parents, and community stakeholders to create environments where everyone feels supported, respected, and protected. Every child and every educator deserves to learn and work in a school environment that is safe, welcoming, and conducive to success.

STUDENT SUCCESS

Let us keep the main thing, the main thing: Education! As believed decades ago, education could still be the great equalizer. The need to think objectively, intensively and critically is still as essential today as it was then, if not more. The effects of educational inequities, as compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, have left our underserved children deficient and further behind. Whether seeking post-secondary education or technical training, my goal is for ALL students to achieve their highest educational efficiency, without regard to the student’s or their parent’s demographic status.I am committed to improving academic achievement, supporting student mental health and well-being, sustaining enrollment, and ensuring equitable access to schools, programs, transportation, and opportunities that empower every child to thrive and succeed.

SUPPORTED TEACHERS & STAFF

I became a guidance counselor to make a meaningful difference in the life of just one child, believing that the impact would grow exponentially throughout that child’s lifetime. However, once I began working within our schools, I quickly realized the need for guidance, support, and advocacy was far greater than I had imagined.

That realization inspired me to pursue a larger impact that extends beyond the walls of a single school and into the laws and policies that shape education in Florida and across the country. Today, as rates of anxiety, depression, and attempted suicide continue to rise among our youth, it is imperative that we address the student-to-guidance counselor ratio and provide counselors with greater opportunities to do what they were trained to do: support the mental and emotional well-being of our students.

Creating successful schools also means valuing ALL of the people who serve students each day, from teachers and counselors to bus drivers, paraprofessionals, cafeteria workers, and support staff. Supporting our students requires investing in the people who care for them through competitive pay, improved retention, professional rese34d26pect, and positive working conditions. When we support those who serve our children, we strengthen the entire educational experience for every student.

strong COMMUNITY partnerships

Strong community partnerships are essential to building successful schools and creating opportunities for every student to thrive. Meaningful partnerships between schools, families, businesses, faith-based organizations, and community leaders begin with communication, transparency, and trust. Families deserve access to clear, reliable information, along with genuine opportunities to engage in the decisions that impact their children’s education.

As a candidate for School Board, I believe our schools are strongest when the entire community works together in support of students. By fostering collaborative relationships and encouraging open dialogue, we can build a culture of accountability, shared responsibility, and mutual respect. Together, we can ensure students have the resources, support systems, and opportunities they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
